When a computer is forced to shut down due to a processor overheating and exceeding the safe temperature range, the error message “Processor thermal trip errors” appears.
Every computer has a dedicated cooling system that keeps the processor cool at all times. The kernel is compelled to shut down the system if the processor becomes “too” hot.
There are numerous causes for this error message, but they all point to the same problem: the processor’s cooling system is not functioning as it should. The cooling of a processor is essential to the development of computing itself. The temperature itself is the restriction that lowers the processor’s speed.

The “Processor Thermal Trip Error” Has a Cause.
As was previously mentioned, this error message only appears when the processor is not being adequately cooled. Some of the causes for this could be:
- While temporarily raising the temperature, overclocking temporarily raises the processor’s clock rate. This error could occur if overclocking doesn’t stop when it should.
- Either the cooling system is completely inoperable or it is clogged with dust. When the computer is not cleaned for a while, this problem arises frequently.
- Either the CPU is not properly installed in the heat sink or the thermal paste is not applied correctly. If the processor is not installed correctly, this happens.

The majority of the fixes for this error message involve physically repairing the cooling system. This error, in contrast to others, is uncommon and extremely important.

Monitoring Core Temperature
If this error is intermittent rather than constant, you can install a programme called “Core Temp” and track the temperature in real-time to get an idea of how hot your CPU is.

- Access the official Core Temp website and download the programme to a convenient location.

Solution 2: Inspecting Ventilation Fans
Making sure that your computer is receiving the appropriate amount of fresh air for ventilation is the first step in fixing the cooling system. Your computer will be forced to shut down and will display the message “Processor thermal trip error” if the fans are covered in dust or if the setup is such that it prevents airflow.
Make sure the fans on your computer are free of dust and that the airflow is unobstructed in any way. Open the cover on a tower and dust all of the air and fan outlets inside. If you have a laptop, you would have to manually clean the fans after unscrewing the cover.
Once the fans have been cleaned, restart your computer and see if the error still occurs.

The thermal paste on your processor may not be properly applied even if the fans are operating normally and the air is being ventilated.
Thermal paste serves as a cooling agent and significantly reduces the temperature of your processor through the fan located directly above. The agent won’t function properly if the thermal paste is not applied properly, which will result in the processor overheating.
- Carefully undo the bolts holding the fan to the processor.
- The cooling agent is now going to be seen. Make sure a cooling agent is close at hand. Apply the agent, spreading it evenly across the processor’s top.
- Install the computer’s cover once more after tightening the fan once more on top of the processor. Wait a short while for the cooling agent to replace it.
- Restart your computer and see if the problem has been fixed.
