Prime Minister of Luxembourg is Hospitalized Due to Covid-19

Xavier Bettel, the prime minister of Luxembourg who has been in power since 2013, has been hospitalized as his health deteriorated due to low blood-oxygen levels. Mr. Xavier Bettel, who is fighting Covid-19, was admitted to hospital on Sunday, a week after he tested positive for the deadly virus.

The Diagnosis Followed the European Council Summit

It was not long after the meeting of the European Council Summit took place, the prime minister of Luxembourg tested positive for covid. The 48-year-old prime minister with other EU leaders attended the meeting in Brussels on June 25, after which he had reportedly undergone the test for the mutating virus.

It was on June 27 that Mr. Xavier Bettel tested positive, and since then, he was under ten days-self-isolation experiencing mild symptoms that did not exceed low fever and headache.

Tested Positive After Being Vaccinated

It is no hidden that the prime minister of Luxembourg on May 6 received his share of the first jab. He was injected with AstraZeneca, which proved to be highly effective against the deadly virus, and took to Twitter to announce the same. On July 1, he was supposed to be fully vaccinated following his second shot of the vaccine, but unfortunately, his reports came out to be positive just four days before.

His Condition being Serious but Stable

The reports following his health on Monday declared that the condition of Mr. Bettel was serious yet stable. Currently, the doctors supervising him have decided to keep Mr. Bettel under observation for at least 24 hours to monitor his overall health condition. The observation period could extend by 2-3 days.

Fortunately, no other minister who attended the summit was tested positive, and various videos and images captured from the conference are sheer evidence of ministers, including Mr. Bettel, wearing a mask and following all covid-related protocols. But as fate would have it, the Prime minister of Luxembourg tested positive, but we anyways wish him a speedy recovery.

Many officials took to their social media handles to wish him a speedy recovery. The president of the EU, Ursula von der Leyen, had wished him “a very speedy recovery,” stating that she hopes to meet him again, but until then, he has to keep in good health and take care of himself.

On Sunday, the prime minister was admitted after complaining of cough along with fever and headache.
