iPhone 12 vs. iPhone 8: Design
The iPhone 12 small has a 5.4-inch screen, compared to the iPhone 8’s 4.8-inch screen. It is shorter and smaller than the iPhone 8, yet it still has Apple’s latest software.
The question is, how did Apple do it? The iPhone 8’s display no longer has large bezels at the top or bottom, and neither does the iPhone 8’s home button.
As a replacement for the iPhone 12’s notch, which is located at the top of the display and houses the camera, Apple has opted for a design similar to that of the iPhone X.
The iPhone 12 is also more compact than the iPhone 8 Plus, while having a screen that is 0.4 inches larger.
Apple and Corning collaborated to develop a Ceramic Shield screen for the iPhone 12. In other words, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini have a four-fold increase in drop resistance compared to the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 mini.
When it comes to the IP68 water-resistance rating of the iPhone 12 models, the iPhone 8 models could only withstand a one-meter drop in water.

Apple’s iPhone 12 Versus iPhone 8 Screens.
The iPhone 8’s LCD screen is a throwback to a time before Apple switched to OLED screens for its smartphones.
OLED panels were introduced in the iPhone X in 2017 and have since become the standard on every flagship iPhone. Included in this are Apple’s Super Retina XDR-display-equipped iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini models.
Colors are more vibrant and blacks are deeper on the iPhone 12 thanks to the move from LCD to OLED. The iPhone 12 has a contrast ratio of 2 million:1 compared to the iPhone 8’s 1,300:1. 114.5% of the sRGB colour space is displayed on the iPhone 12, compared to 119.6% on the iPhone 8 (and 117.8% on the iPhone 12 small).
With a Delta-E rating of 0.29 against 0.89, the iPhone 12 is substantially more realistic in its rendering of colours than the iPhone 8. A value as close to 0 as possible. However, according to its 0.25 Delta-E rating, the display of the iPhone 8 Plus is somewhat more accurate.

The images taken by the iPhone 12 are far superior to those taken by the iPhone 8 despite the fact that the latter has a single 12-megapixel sensor. Adding a second 12MP camera and a 2x optical zoom to the iPhone 8 Plus boosts performance.
There are two cameras on both the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 mini: one with a 12MP wide-angle lens and the other with a 12MP ultra-wide lens. In order to capture more light, the iPhone 12 cameras feature larger apertures than the iPhone 8 model.
However, the narrative of the camera isn’t simply about the equipment. Three years after the release of the iPhone 8, Apple’s photo processing capabilities have advanced significantly. The most recent iPhones support features like Night Mode and Deep Fusion, which enhance the details and textures of images taken with the phone’s cameras.
White balance, saturation, and contrast may now be dynamically adjusted on-the-fly using a new version of Apple’s Smart HDR function on the iPhone 12. In addition, Dolby Vision HDR video recording is now possible with the newest smartphones.
Aside from having as many back cameras, the iPhone 8 Plus’s machine learning-powered software allows you to accomplish so much more than before.
If you’re upgrading from an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus, you’ll notice a considerable difference in the performance of both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 tiny cameras. This year’s winner of the best photography phone award doesn’t come from a device released three years ago.
Comparison of iPhone 12 vs. iPhone 8
Upgraders to the iPhone 8 will likely see the biggest difference in this area. The A11 Bionic chip found in the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus was the best Apple silicon available at the time. The Snapdragon 835, at the time, was the greatest chipset for Android phones, and this one was more than capable of competing.
While other companies have slowed down, Apple hasn’t. With each new iPhone model release, the company has introduced a new, more powerful processor. With the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 small, we’ve reached the A14 Bionic, which, according to Apple, will exceed last year’s silicon and even 2017 CPUs.
With a single-core score of 1,593 and a multicore score of 3,859, we performed Geekbench 5 on the iPhone 12. An even better multicore score of 4,123 was achieved by the iPhone 12 mini.
When it comes to single- and multicore tests, the iPhone 12 outperformed the iPhone 11 Pro Max (1,334 and 3,517, respectively), and given the A13 Bionic chip in the iPhone 12 was released very recently, we can safely presume the A11-powered iPhone 8 would be a distant second.
Apple hasn’t improved their iPhones in any way. The iPhone 12 and 12 mini have the same 64GB storage capacity as the iPhone 8, which is still a bare minimum. At the very least, the latest iPhones come in 128GB and 256GB storage capacity variants. (Only the 256GB model of the iPhone 8 could be upgraded.)
The new iPhone can connect to 5G networks, which is another feature that sets the iPhone 12 models apart from the iPhone 8. Stay with an iPhone 8 and you’ll be locked into 4G LTE connectivity.
iPhone 12 Battery and Charging vs. iPhone 8
Comparing battery life between earlier and newer iPhones is difficult since Apple does not divulge the size of the batteries it uses in its devices. iPhone 8 and 8 Plus batteries were found to be 1,821 mAh in the iPhone 8 and 2,675 mAh in the iPhone 8 Plus in teardowns.
During our 2017 battery test, we were able to get 11 hours out of the iPhone 8 while the iPhone 8 Plus lasted 11 hours. Both of these devices would still qualify for our ranking of the best smartphones for battery life, which only includes devices introduced in the last year and a half.
When it comes to battery life, the iPhone 12 is nowhere near as good as the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and the iPhone X, which all lasted for over 10 hours on the same test. The iPhone 12 mini, which has a smaller battery, lasted only 7.5 hours before running out of juice.
The iPhone 12’s poor battery life is due to what? In addition to the 6.1-inch OLED display, we’d blame 5G. The iPhone 12 held out for 10 hours and 23 minutes on LTE, approximately two hours longer than when we disabled 5G and repeated the identical test over LTE.
iPhone 8 and iPhone 12 both feature wireless charging, making them the first two Apple devices to do so.
However, MagSafe wireless charging, in which magnet-equipped chargers attach to the back of the phone for a more consistent charge, has been included to Apple’s mobile devices as of late.
MagSafe, on the other hand, provides 15W wireless charging, which is far faster than the 7.5W supported by standard charging pads. Note that if you have an iPhone 12 mini, you’ll be limited to 12W of data transfer speed.).
The Software and Special Features of the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 8
When it comes to the iPhone vs. iPad debate, this one is a close one. iOS 14 is pre-installed on the iPhone 12, however iPhone 8 owners have been able to upgrade to it since it was released in September.
In addition, iOS 14 offered new features like home-screen widgets, better app organisation, and upgrades to Maps and Messages, which may make an older iPhone feel like a brand new one. iOS 14.5 is now available, and it runs just as well on the iPhone 8 as it does on the iPhone 12.
If you purchased an iPhone 8 or later, you’re undoubtedly used to receiving wired headphones and a charger in the package.
When it comes to iPhone 12, however, Apple has decided to do away with the accessories in favour of more environmentally friendly packaging and less electronic waste. Even if Apple had to convince customers to pay for their own accessories, they probably wouldn’t have made the shift.
The iPhone 12 vs. iPhone 8 Debate is Over.
With three years of design, hardware, and software advances, you’d expect the iPhone 12 to be a considerable upgrade over the iPhone 8, and Apple has delivered just that with the iPhone 12 compared to the iPhone 8.
